Blood Testing: HbA1c, Vit D, hsCRP

The mouth is connected to the rest of the body. The science is in.

When appropriate, we advise certain blood tests to see if the oral environment is adversely affecting our patients’ whole-body wellness.

Gum disease has the potential to adversely affect blood sugar levels (and vice versa!).

Oral infections, such as gum disease or bad root canals, can adversely affect a patient’s hsCRP. hsCRP is an indication of whole-body inflammation and is believed by many wellness experts to be the single most important factor related to predicting sudden death by heart attack. Reducing oral inflammation and infections reduces this risk.

Vit D

From an oral health viewpoint, adequate vitamin D intake is important for the regulation of calcium and phosphorus absorption, which leads to the maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. Most people are low in Vitamin D, and therefore monitoring it is important for oral and whole-body wellness.
